Scrapbooking the Little Things They Love

Every child seems to go through a season when one special thing captures their whole heart. It might be a favorite movie, a stuffed animal, a bedtime story, or a song they ask to hear over and over again. Those little obsessions never seem important at the time, but somehow they become some of the sweetest memories years later.

For my one-year-old granddaughter, that season arrived when I introduced her to the original Mary Poppins movie from 1964.

Scrapbook layout featuring photos of a little girl hugging her Mary Poppins doll after discovering her favorite movie.

Watching my granddaughter fall in love with Mary Poppins made me smile because it brought back memories of when her Auntie, my oldest daughter, was obsessed with it too. So when I discovered an artist on Etsy who made little felt Mary Poppins dolls, I knew I had to ask if she could customize one to be safe for a one-year-old to cuddle and carry everywhere.

It turned out even more adorable than I’d imagined, and the first time she wrapped her little arms around it, I knew it had been worth every penny. Watching her cuddle that tiny doll reminded me why I scrapbook in the first place. It’s easy to remember birthdays and holidays. It’s the little seasons of childhood, the favorite movie, the well-loved toy, the things they can’t imagine life without, that deserve a place in our albums.

Fresh Stories

This layout was my way of preserving a season that probably would have slipped away with time. Looking at the photos instantly takes me back to the tiny Mary Poppins doll tucked under her arm, the wide-eyed wonder on her face, and the joy of watching a classic story become part of another generation’s childhood.

Recipe

Sketch & Savor members received the complete sketch, measurements, Cricut cut files, and story prompts that inspired this layout. The sketch is simple enough for everyday photos while still leaving plenty of room to tell the story behind them. That’s what makes it one of my favorite designs for documenting childhood memories.

Ingredients

I paired playful patterns from Carta Bella’s Practically Perfect collection with bright primary colors to capture the cheerful spirit of Mary Poppins. A layered paper bow, book-themed paper, and a simple title helped reinforce the story without overwhelming the photos.

Real Life

Childhood changes so quickly. One day they’re carrying a favorite doll everywhere, and before you know it, they’ve moved on to something new. That’s exactly why I believe these everyday stories deserve a place in our albums. They’re the moments that quietly become our favorites.
