What Is Hybrid Embossing? Here’s How It Works
Have you ever tried hybrid embossing? It’s one of those techniques that sounds much more complicated than it actually is, and once I tried it, I immediately understood the appeal.
A hybrid embossing folder works together with a coordinating die so you can cut and emboss an image at the same time. Instead of simply cutting out a stamped image, you end up with all that wonderful texture added right into the design.
In the video below, I used the Stampin’ Up! Seaside Wishes set to show you how the technique works. The products may change over time, but the technique is one you can use anytime you come across a hybrid embossing folder and coordinating dies.
Why I Like Hybrid Embossing
For me, it’s all about the texture. You get the dimension of an embossing folder while still having a beautifully cut piece that can be added to a card, scrapbook page or other paper project.
And because the folder and die are designed to work together, you get a lot of detail without adding a lot of extra steps.
If you already have a hybrid embossing folder hiding somewhere in your stash, this might be your sign to pull it out and actually use the thing. We bought the supplies. We might as well make them earn their keep.
The Seaside Wishes Example
For this particular demonstration, I used Stampin’ Up!’s Seaside Wishes products, which included stamps along with coordinating dies and a hybrid embossing folder. I loved the beachy images, but the real takeaway from this project is the technique itself.
